Good stuff: The hotel is situated close to the Leidesplein which is quite central and has good transport links by tram and buses to the city centre. While the bedroom was a bit dingy the attached en suite shower room looked very fresh clean and newly fitted. My check in was smooth as all my details were registered on the computer at the reception. As always in Holland staff were polite and spoke excellent english. The bed was comfortable with plenty of blankets and a quilt. There was a tv in the room with countless stations. The room safe supplied would have been useful had I discovered the instructions for its use. They were inside the thing which I found the day I was leaving.
Bad stuff: The whole entrance to the hotel was undergoing some refurbisment which meant that the entrance lobby, which was one floor up, was accessed by climbing what amounts to a steep and narrow fire escape surrounded by hoarding boards. This prooved rather a struggle trying to haul up a heavy bag. The building at first glance looked like a building site and certainly didnt inspire confidence. Generally the decor of the hotel was very dowdy and needed more than a lick of fresh paint. A stale smell pervaded the hallway from the reception to the main elevator. The decor of the bedroom was also not too fresh not added to by water stains and split plaster work to one side of the window, where the roof obviously was in need of some attention.
Overall: I would have liked to know the above facts or at least that the hotel was undergoing some renovation.
