Reviews of Cafe Amsterdam

This cafe in Amsterdam is more of a restaurant than many of the restaurants I have been to in my time. Table service with a smile multilingual service staff with a professional and friendly feel to the place. I have been here a number of times and enjoyed all of them. Dishes served up here for lunch and dinner are good quality and at a price that doesn't bring the house down.

The place itself has quite a family friendly atmosphere. There can be a number of families with children who are eating here. The clientele seems to be mainly local but they do cater for tourists as well.

The building itself has quite a history to it and I must say it is the first time I have sat down to a meal in a room that has a old (no longer in service) water pump in it that is the size of a tractor. The huge ceilings add to the nature of the place and although it can be a bit noisy as long as you are with a few friends or the family you don't really notice that much.

The menu is varied and includes traditional Dutch recipes and good old fashion European styles. The wine list is good with nice selections of European and new world wines. Our waitress did have a good knowledge of the wine list and she helped us to make a good selection for what we were eating. Booking a table is a good idea as it can get very busy on weekends.
